Bohol sets 2 days
General clean-up

TAGBILARAN CITY, April 6 (PIA)—Bohol designates two days of general clean-up; most of it to set in motion the regular fiesta preparation habit and then to highlight the ASEAN welcome.

The Bohol Sangguniang Panlalawigan through Resolution 2017-243 has declared April 7, Friday as Province-Wide Clean Up Day.

On the other hand, the City Government, through Memorandum Order No. 48 series of 2017 urges people to join in the citywide coastal and non coastal clean-up for the ASEAN Summit and the Saulog Festival, Earth Day Observance and Annual Fiesta preparation this Saturday, April 8.

In a Capitol Advisory from the Effective Development Communications (EDCom) Chief Augustus Escobia, provincial leaders reminded the residents to segregate their garbage at source, because just as the Alburquerque Sanitary Landfill starts to operate, the facility only accepts residual waste.

Escobia also reminds pet owners to keep their pets on leashes and in effective control as these left in the public areas can cause problems with rabies or road accidents.

On the other hand, with the activities coming up, City Mayor John Geesnal Yap said cleaning up not only prepares the city as a gateway for the ASEAN Summit delegates and support staff, it also paves the way for Saulog Tagbilaran, sets the tome for the Earth Day celebration in April 22 and the annual feast of St Joseph the worker.

Mayor Yap said cleaning up is a way of making our visitors feel the warm hospitality that we have been known for, let us exert conscious effort to make our places clean and safe.

For the City’s ridge-to-reef clean up, it starts at 6:00 AM April 8, to happen in respective areas and barangays.

The mayor’s memorandum specifically orders city residents to remove garbage and waste in the premises to keep off insect infestation, pulling out and mowing weeds from the sidewalks, cutting of dead leaves and branches from trees, cleaning of drainage areas to prevent foul smell, removing tarpaulin posters becoming eye-sores, collecting coastal garbage and disposing of segregated residual wastes to roving garbage trucks.

As Capitol sends out its officials and employees to clean areas seen to be the routes for the ASEAN, city residents make sure the city is spic and span at the ASEAN and upcoming fiesta.

The mayor also ordered the mayors Media Bureau, Barangay Affairs and Constituency Unit, City Solid Waste Management Office, General Services Office, City Agriculture and Veterinary Office as well as the Liga nga Mga Barangay to monitor and participate in the event.

Clean ups like this started this week as Bohol attempts to institutionalize the Fiesta Month Welcome which also incidentally falls within the same period Bohol hosts the senior officials and ministers meetings of the ASEAN 2017 in Panglao. (PIABohol)
