BM Cepedoza wants ASEAN
among brgy Assembly topics

TAGBILARAN CITY, March 18 (PIA)--In as much as the upcoming synchronized barangay assembly would cascade the information about Bohol's Community based drug Rehabilitation Program (CBRP), Liga ng mga Barangay chief says information about the ASEAN should get there.

The ASEAN is the Association of South East Asian Nations, a 10 country power block in the region which envisions a peaceful, stable and resilient community with enhanced capacity to effectively respond to challenges.

Speaking at the Kapihan sa PIA Thursday, Bohol Liga nga mga barangay President and Magtangtang Danao's barangay chairman Dr. Romulo Cepedoza said he hopes barangays also tackle the ASEAN and grind to action what the Boholanos do when guests are coming.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through Secretary Michael Sueño has pressed that the Synchronized Barangay Assembly is mandatory under section 397 of the Local Government Code.

This is to give barangay residents the opportunity to hear and discuss with their barangay officials the developments and concerns in their community.

The barangay assemblies are set twice a year, this time by the last Saturday of march or march 25 and the second Sunday of October.

Secretary Sueño explained that a barangay assembly forms an integral part of democratic governance in the barangay levels by ensuring a venue for the governed souvereign Filipino masses and the barangay government to hear and be heard as well as for barangay officials to report on their barangay plans programs and projects as well as its state of finances and priorities.

Bohol has been lucky being among the very few provinces in the country which would be hosting top level meetings of the ASEAN where the province expects over 200 ministers and senior officials.

With the meetings in Bohol set in Panglao, Governor Edgar Chatto has issued a call for Boholanos to shift into the tradition of the fiesta, roll out the red carpet.

The Chatto order however needs to be brought down to the barangays who would be organizing to clean up, string the buntings, clear the roads of trash and hand the curtains of welcome.

Also among Chatto's call is the cleaning up of unsightly roadside tarpaulins and notices, billboards and most especially trash.

At the Kapihan, Board member Cepedoza also asked Boholanos to be courteous and give proper instructions to tourists, one he practices in his barangay where the most extreme adventure experience of Bohol is located.

Authorities also said they wanted Panglao beach fronts cleared from its obstructions of the public access zones, trash and stray dogs.

"We need people to help us clean up," Cepedoza who sees the ASEAN as an opportunity to showcase Bohol's tourism and investment potential to the Asian neighbors said. (rac/PIA-7/Bohol)
