Chatto vacates RDC seat
With 8.8% GRDP legacy
TAGBILARAN CITY, June 18, (PIA) – Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto bowed out and relinquished his chairmanship with the Regional Development Council (RDC) he led, reporting an 8.8 % Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth, the third highest in the country.
Completing a full term at the helms of the region’s top development council, Chatto, in his valedictory address in from of Cebu Governor Hilario Davide Jr., and Siquijor Governor Zaldy Villa, reminded everyone, the RDC’s benchmarks with identified impact areas to track the regional development.
In the area of sustaining economic growth, Chatto picked on the Central Visayas’ GRDP growth rate at 8.8 in 2014, only after Region XI and Region III, with each having 9.4 and 9.0 respectively during the 2013-2014 term.
The region appears to pick up after the slump in 2013, possibly caused by the earthquake in Bohol and Cebu and the triple disasters that hit the region.
In 2013, Central Visayas etched a 7.4% GRDP, compared to the 9.4% GRDP it attained the previous year. In 2014 however, the regional performed better with the 8.8% GRDP showing.
The region also posted 14.8% increase in tourist visitor arrivals, a figure slightly lower than 2014 which had 15.8%.
Other economic indicators showed promising developments especially in sustained construction, power consumption, employment and taming inflation rates.
Central Visayas in 2015 saw the proportion of families below poverty thresholds go slightly up with 27% from 25.7 in 2012.
The regional also boasts of the Anti Red tape Act and the implementation of the minimum number of police per station, better buildings constructed to withstand storms and earthquakes, better water supply for the provinces and a paperless RDC.
As far as planning is concerned, Chatto’s leadership at the RDC allowed for the updated CV Regional Development Plan, RDC Priority Action Agenda, Long Term Visayas Spatial Development Framework 2015-2045, CLUPs in RLUC, Metro Cebu Roadmap Study for Sustainable Development and a New Master Plan Studies for Bohol and Cebu for JICA funding.
As for Investment Programming and Budget Review, the DRC under Chatto as put up priority PAPs for 2015, 2016 and 2017, attained a better batting average for planned projects accomplishments, advocacy for PDC/CDC endorsement, integration of grassroots, KALSADA, CR+ID, CIP, DRRM and the Regional Poverty Alleviation and Development Funds.
For this, Chatto obtained a relatively high leadership rating enough to have earned plaques of recognition for the RDC feat. (rac/PIA-7/Bohol)
