Vote buying may not
work, says Bohol poll

TAGBILARAN CITY, May 6, (PIA) –If by any chance, candidates still would go for the folly of illegal vote buying, note: 84% of Boholano voters would still get your money but vote according to their conscience.

Call it a fore-warning, but from the recently concluded Bohol Poll pre-election survey which run from April 10, and 18 to May 2, only 19% of Boholano voters would follow whom their leaders tell them to vote.

As to the feared bandwagon effect, of the survey which picked 400 random samples from all over Bohol, only 16% of voters would vote for the one who would most likely win.

Fact is, the Holy Name University’s Bohol Poll pre-election survey round showed an overwhelming 96% of Boholano voters saying “whether she or he is popular, I will vote for the candidate with view closest to mine.”

In that same survey, incumbent Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto and Liberal Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate picked a very strong lead with 79% of voters preferring him, as against 18% who voted for Rosemarie Imboy of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban).

The rest of the Bohol gubernatorial slate include Wenceslao Garcia (independent) who had 3%, while Cary Balagosa (Ind) and Fer Gaudicos each picked a 0.3% share.

And as if to substantiate the survey, Bohol Poll also showed proof that command voting may not really work.

According to the survey, for the 79% who picked Chatto as their preferred governor, or an equivalent 316 voters, 43% of them or 135 voters still picked Duterte as president, despite the fact that Chatto campaigns for Roxas.

Of Chatto’s voters, 41 or 13% of them picked Poe for president, while 22 of those voters who chose Chatto as governor picked Binay.

Of those 316 who picked Chatto for governor, only 117 voters went for the party’s presidential bet Roxas.

On the other hand, for Imboy, whom 72 Boholano voters picked as governor, 42 picked Duterte, while 17 picked Poe and only 6 rooted for Roxas.

As to the vice governors, PDP Laban’s Dionisio Balite still managed to get 101 vote support from those who picked Chatto for Governor.

Vice gubernatorial candidate and incumbent LP candidate Concepcion Lim gets picked by the 215 voters who chose Chatto as governor.

On the other hand, 40 % of Chatto’s 316 voters picked Leni Robredo, but yet, 28% or 88 of those who picked Chatto as governor chose Alan Peter Cayetano instead as vice president. (rac/PIA-7/Bohol)
