TAGBILARAN CITY, January 7, (PIA)—The rolling and challenging hills of Cambaol in Alicia town becomes the hub of extreme biking activities next week as tow town pedals for the 66th Alicia Founding Anniversary Mountain Bike (MTB) Festival Race 2016 on Sunday January 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
Not only giving healthy lifestyle as a premium, the mountain bike challenge affords an all-terrain bicyclist the splendid panorama of the town’s gorgeous views from the hills, while negotiating for the hefty prizes up for grabs.
Prizes for the top three in the Open/Elite category goes up P 5, 000.00, P 3, 000.00, P 2, 000.00, while the All Bohol is P 3, 000.00, P 2, 000.00, P 1, 000.00 for the podium awards.
In the 45 years old and above, prizes are at P 3, 000.00, P 2, 000.00, P 1, 000.00, while the beginners are at 2, 000.00, P 1, 000.00, P 500.00.
Registration is pegged at P250 and is inclusive of lunch and finishers t-shirts for early birds. Walk in during the event registrants run the risk of no t-shirts.
According to Godelia Lomogdang, Alica Tourism and Information Officer cum Market Administrator, the races are for Open Elite, All Bohol, 45 years old and above and beginners.
Interested riders in all categories however need to pre-register between January 10-17, 2016, to be able to track read and practice the route, Alicia organizers stressed.
Organizers also said they are very strict on personal safety and wearing of appropriate bike helmets is a must, otherwise, the participant is not allowed to race.
Also, the race implements strictly no bike switching during the race, and strict following of the designated race course would be implemented and tracked by marshals. Any attempt to take short cuts mean immediate disqualification, Lomogdang said.
The race course, according to organizers feature a diverse mix of flat terrains, cart tracks, punishing ascents and glorious downhill that should excite trail enthusiasts.
It is a challenging course, said biking coach Jojo Murillo who along with Bol-anon Cylists tested the trails last week.
Most bikers however had to stop at the peaks to take selfies and scan the gorgeous Alicia landscape as seen from the bike trails.
The race route includes gun start at Alicia Public Market and zips to Rosaroso Roman Catholic Cemetery, then to Cambaol Brgy. Hall where the mountain trails bring the bikers to technical trails to Calintaan and then downhill to Binabaje then exit at Cambaol Occidental to Progreso before finishing at the Alicia Municipal Hall.
