Cyclists to mark Independence Day
with Phil territorial integrity ride
TAGBILARAN CITY, June 10 (PIA)-- The Provincial Government of Bohol leads the 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence on June 12, 2015, at the Plaza Rizal even as cyclists mark the day with a bike ride that establishes Boholano position in the ongoing state crisis when Asian giant China claims Philippine islands in the West Philippine Sea.
And just as Bohol Capitol engages its employees and patriotic citizens to join local leaders in the 7:15 AM Eucharistic Celebration at the St. Joseph Cathedral which marks the beginning of the local commemoration of the declaration of Independence, Bohol cyclists will have covered considerable distance in the Independence Day Bike Ride.
Long before the mass for Independence would have started, bikers who would be carrying tri-color flaglets from the Philippine Information Agency, would be midway in their Independence Day Bike Ride.
The Bike Ride to Defend Philippine Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity is our statement of support tothe Philippine claim of the disputed islands in the West Philippine Sea, according to a friend of Jojo Orcullo, who posted the eposter at the group's facebook page.
The bike route, which is basically a mix of trail and road, pedals off from the Plaza at 5:30 to Dauis-Panglao and then gets to mountain trails of Dauis to Totolan before going back to the Tagbilaran City's Plaza Rizal.
Riders though hope to be back and be in solidarity with the Capitol-led events at 8:00 at the Plaza Rizal.
A simultaneous ringing of the church bells, blowing of horns and sounding of sirens would be expected at 8:00, according to Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio, in a memorandum calling for attendance to the 117th Independence Day Commemoration Activities.
At 8:10, commemoration participants would be having a wreath-laying and flag raising ceremonies at the Plaza, which would be followed by the 8:30 Commemorative program at the same venue.
The 117th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence takes the theme, "Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay ng Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot-Kamay na ng Bayan."
On that day too, local government units are set to do their own commemorative activities, led by their respective local government officials.
Most of the commemoration activities center on flag raising ceremonies, cultural presentations, nationalistic speeches and parades that use the flag as the thematic icon and red, blue and white as the decorative colors.
That day also marks the end of the National Flag Days which started May 28-June 12, pursuant to Executive Order No 14 series of 2014.
In Bohol executive order signed by Governor Edgar Chatto however, he called for the display of the national flag in all public buildings, commercial establishments and other appropriate areas from June 1-30, to show respect and reverence to the national flag as symbol of unity, one Filipino nation and one sovereignty, government authority and democracy.
